the last thing that we've seen that i've gotten around to posting here:
ridicule is a very entertaining and witty movie, hell it's even got a lot of heart. i had missed this movie until recently, don't miss it, it's a great film.

movies seen fairly recently, most recent to least recent

  • high art, if not a great movie, is worth watching, and inspirational nonetheless.
  • if it's not too late, avoid in the company of men at all costs. a shit like the main character isn't worth wasting 2 hours of your life. this is another director that if i saw them on the street i would punch them in the face. keep your garbage too yourself. at least my bile attacks things i think are bad, not abusing something good. the world doesn't need a character study of this kind of scumbag. eat shit and die labutttte you piece of shit. the end
  • at gar's suggestion we saw muriel's wedding which was very nice. it is one of those awkward people making their way in the real world movies. toni collette may not be as fun to watch as parker posey, but very nice
  • starship troopers was very fun. and diz was a nice heroine. people who find this movie hard to take don't know what fascistic is, your boss is more fascistic than this movie. this movie is a fun comic book story.
  • l.a. confidential was another film that i liked more than i thought i would. russell crowe was wonderful as bud white. kevin spacey was fun as always. all in all i enjoyed this film much more than chinatown which is always mentioned in the same breath with this film
  • clockwatchers was a wonderful parker posey fest, with toni collette somehow in the main role. parker posey is an inspiration to working people everywhere. toni collette's role was mere plot movement. parker posey is pure performance art.
  • we saw ken burns' lewis & clark: the journal of the corps of discovery on pbs. there are few better ways to pass time than absorbing the documentaries of ken burns. i am currently watching his civil war series on videotape. praise be to ken burns and PBS!
  • i finally got around to watching the entire twin peaks series and movie, and it was very fine indeed, although i found the end of the series and movie disappointing. this was a very worthwhile and imaginative approach to television, or movies for that matter
  • ignore the fucking hype, breaking the waves is a sick fucking piece of shit. lars von trier, the director, is an asshole. i'm usually pretty open-minded and believe everyone should be able to have their own opinion, but if you liked this, go fuck yourself and die.
  • deep valley is a good, sad movie. it stars ida lupino and dane clark as star-crossed lovers (aren't we all). they were wonderful in these sensitive roles. very good, another winner from turner classic movies. co-written (uncredited) by william faulkner.
  • heavy is too fucking devastatingly sad. pruitt taylor vince is just too painful to watch. he has almost no lines. you just ache with him throughout the whole movie. you want to commit hari kari at the end of the movie. it's real good, but really really just too fucking painful, he endures his pain so silently, doesn't share his desires with anyone, can't talk to anyone, and there isn't anyone in his world.
  • flirt by hal hartley was a disappointment, a not altogether successful experiment, first part was ok, but not enough to it for me. sort of like samuel beckett's latter stuff, experiments on the same themes, covering successively less and less ground, but much less good than samuel beckett's later work
  • mallrats was not a waste of time at all, a fun distraction
you can't trust hollywood and you certainly can't trust tom cruise. i mean mission impossible was about the biggest piece of crap i saw last year, but jerry maguire is good, really
  • chasing amy rules, a great movie
  • swingers didn't have enough emotions to choke a fish, glad i didn't see it in the theater
  • trees lounge is just sort of dull, you don't really care about the characters very much
  • the search for one-eye jimmy is a complete waste of time, garbage
  • the fifth element is a big disappointment. while not quite as dumb as independence day, this movie manages to be pretty stupid, though the dj is fun and milla is fetching
  • long kiss goodnight--geena davis kicks butt
  • the mask with jim carrey, yay, jim carrey
  • liar liar--love jim carrey
  • i actually saw the movie Mask and it broke my heart to pieces
