Emulators--well, emulators are programs that function on your computer as hardware, usually from the past, and can use the software for that hardware. translation: emulators are programs that make your computer think it is a Commodore 64, or an arcade machine, or an Atari 2600, just to name a few. these programs kick serious ass.
mp3 software--mp3's are sound files of near cd quality that are compressed to take up much less space than raw, high quality sound files. they may do for the music industry what the internet has done with communication. that is, they may make the music you can buy even more portable, inexpensive, all-inclusive, and evermore obscure and all encompassing. plus you can rock out to your favorite tunes while you are glued to the screen.
Microsoft Windows Notepad. yes, plain old notepad.exe. it is a great simple text editor, hell, i'm writing this with it.
awesome! PC demos--dreams for a new youth (this archive is alas, now defunct. hopefully a new library will emerge for this great art)
this is one of my favorite eye candies and reason
enough to go out and buy a computer, Acidwarp for the pc: --acidwarp.exe--25638 bytes,
executable, even on 286 10MHz! with color vga
Cthugha--a wonderful progam
that responds to sound input (including the cd's of your choice) with
beautiful color-cycling (available in dos, mac, and linux flavors)
Hyperreal--this is the place
where i first found out about demos, acidwarp & its brethren, and
Cthugha. a great site for delving further into our mindcandy universe.
and of course i use some of the regular programs to do the internet thing
you have going on here. i wish i could have every kind of computer there ever was, but i have too much junk already and life is short.
